What type of boat will we be fishing on?

Inside the cabin

Here at Big Fish Hawaii we are on the water most days out of the year and need a reliable vessel to let us do our job. Our weapon of choice is the Bertram 31. This deep V hull allows us to get out on the water even when some other boats are still at the dock due to weather.

We had a rebuilt on this boat in 2008 and have made this classic boat up to modern boating standards including the addition of the custom fly bridge. Our boat also has a cabin if you need to take a break from the fishing and a restroom.

For our electronics such as the depth finder, radar and navigation we use Garmin.

When is the best time of year to fish?

Anytime of the year is good. Our best advice is that when you come, stay as long you can and fish frequent. The more time on the water, the better. Fish are around our waters year round but some days the bite can be slow while others it will be on fire.

What is a typical charter day like?

Normally for a full day charter we will leave the docks by 7 am and head out to the fishing grounds. Once in a good area, the crew will start to put the lines out and begin to troll. We are able to change up our fishing strategy based on the bite and what we see out on the water. Once we have filled up the fish boxes we head in to the docks and are back on land by 4 pm.

What do I need to bring?

Bring sunscreen and whatever you prefer to wear while being out in the sun all day. We will provide water and sandwiches for lunch. Any other beverages you would like please bring with you. If you are unable to get groceries, let us know and we can shop for you (for an additional fee). All fishing equipment is provided.

Is there safety gear aboard the boat?
